From 1965 to 1968 he was with the Servo Laboratory, the Technical University of Denmark.
From 1968 to 1969, he was a systems engineer at General Dynamics, Rochester, New York, and from 1969 to 1971 he implemented computer control in the paper industry with Measurex Corporation, Santa Clara, California.
Since 1971, he has been an Associate Professor, and from 1990 Reading Professor (Docent), in control engineering at the Institute for Electronic Systems, Aalborg University, Denmark.
His main interests are modeling, system identification, and control, e.g. in relation to cancer hyperthermia systems, loudspeakers and ac-motors.
He has developed a method for direct estimation of physical parameters in linear and nonlinear dynamic systems, employing a sensitivity approach for input design and parameter accuracy evaluation. The method is implemented in a Matlab Toolbox, SENSTOOLS.
In recent years a considerable part of his time is spend on IT-Based
Learning, in particular in relation to distance learning, and on The IT-Initiative,
a program for adjusting Aalborg University to the IT-age.
